2nd Alberto Lysy International Violin Competition

After an extremely successful first edition in 2020, time has come again for young and talented violinists from all over the world to gather in Gstaad.

The Alberto Lysy International Violin Competition was created with the intention of promoting young violinists from all over the world, as well as cherishing the great violinist Alberto Lysy and his legacy.

A four years loan of a beautiful and fantastically sounding Vuillaume violin constitutes the first Prize of the competition.

All rounds are open to the public and taking place at the Kirchgemeindehaus in Gstaad.

The first round is a solo violin round, Bach will be played of course, but also the only imposed piece of the competition: the Suite N°1 for solo violin by Ernest Bloch. A rarely played and wonderful piece, written in 1958, dedicated to Yehudi Menuhin and premiered by Alberto Lysy in the famous Wigmore Hall on the 2nd of January 1959.

The second round will contrast a classic sonata (either Beethoven or Schubert) with a virtuoso piece (Ysaÿe or Saint-Saëns) while the final round will let us hear a classic concerto by Mozart as well as one freely chosen by the candidate.
