Chamber music works by Jacques Caulin

A rather rare vinyl record of Alberto Lysy playing works by Jacques Caulin ended up in our hands.

The works, which were totally unknown to me, are interesting, particularly the “Élégie” for violin and piano, written in 1972 and dedicated to Alberto Lysy himself.

The LP was in good shape and so the digital transfer was not really challenging. Nevertheless we used the opportunity to filter, restore and slightly remaster in order to improve on some limitations of the original recording. The typical parisian traffic rumble leaking into the studio was reduced to more acceptable levels, the imaging was improved, and the choice of using the phono preamplifier section of a very nice, fully restored and japan sourced SANSUI CA-2000 from 1976 feeding into a state of the art Merging Technologies HAPI converter led to a nice, full bodied and slightly vintage sound.

The “Élégie”, the string Trio and the string Quartet have all been uploaded to Linos classic’s YouTube channel.

JACQUES CAULIN

Chamber Music

Jacques CAULIN was born on the 22nd of April 1937 in Paris. After having composed mainly for symphonic orchestra and scenic music, Jacques CAULIN, through these chamber music works, wished to pay homage to the musicians of the yearly Yehudi Menuhin Festival of Gstaad-Saanen. The string Trio dedicated to Maurice Gendron in 1969, the Elegy for violin and piano dedicated to Alberto Lysy in 1972 and the string Quartet n°1 dedicated to Yehudi Menuhin in 1970 were all composed in Saanen.
