Ivry Gitlis

With the death of Ivry Gitlis the era of the great violinists of the XXth century comes to an end.

It was a moment we all feared, yet Ivry’s incredible longevity made it seem like it would never happen.

Sadly this 24th of december 2020 the news came. Ivry Gitlis had passed away.

He was a character and an artist in all meanings of the word.

Arguably the last of the great violonists of the XXth century, and the last surviving student of Thibaud, Flesch and Enescu, he was both the heir to a rich and unparalleled tradition and one of the boldest, most unique and striking musical personality.

A great man goes to his grave and the last page of the richest chapter in the history of violin turns, quietly.

He will be sorely missed.
